Water For People helps the most impoverished people worldwide improve their quality of life by supporting sustainable drinking water, sanitation and hygiene projects. Our vision is a world where all people have access to safe drinking water, adequate sanitation and basic health services. A world where no child dies from a water-related illness.
The Washington, DC Water For People Committee works throughout the greater DC community to further the organization's vision by promoting awareness of the need for potable water and sanitation through education and outreach to individuals, universities and other groups with shared interests; advocating for water related issues that foster positive, meaningful change in the way water and sanitation are addressed in developing countries; and raising funds through special events that support Water For People's programs worldwide and expand its reach.
Through collaboration with local organizations, such as the Federal Water Quality Association and the DC Environmental Film Festival, we inform and educate others about the critical need for and challenges facing the availability and quality of water and sanitation around the world. We hold quarterly events to discuss water and sanitation related issues ranging from conflict and climate change to women and urban environment. By participating in the numerous water related discussions and forums that take place in D.C., our committee remains informed of and continues to advocate for domestic and international policy reform that will one day ensure safe drinking water, adequate sanitation and basic health services for all.
